There’s a reason why skateboarding is an extreme sport; and that’s because it’s athletes have a higher risk of injury than most sports. A skater would always receive minor injuries and scratches along the way when performing stunts.

Because of this sport, there have been many skaters that have encounterd life-threatening injuries and other serious injuries as well. However despite the risk, it still remains a widely popular sport especially among those who practice it. And that’s because skateboarding is fun, exciting, exhilarating, and downright amazing especially when you are good at performing tricks and stunts.

Skateboarding is definitely fun and exciting, but is it really that dangerous? Maybe, not. If you are more knowledgeable about the sport, you will actually gradually reduce your risk of injury. Here are some safety factors that you should know to prevent injuries from skateboarding.

Always have protective gear on as you skate. It is very important for a skater to be wearing the proper safety gear when performing. Things like helmets, knee pads and elbow pads are very much important and vital as they help prevent injuries. Remember that skateboarding is an extreme sport and safety equipments should always be worn at all times to avoid any injury as much as possible.

Protective gears could save your life; a helmet could save you from a concussion and possibly brain damage that could be caused by such a sport. Those protective gears are sold in stores for safety purposes and not for fashion purposes, so remember to buy the proper set and use them always when skateboarding.

Think of the safety precautions before proceeding to do anything. You need to consider your surroundings, your technique, and the ability that you possess before attempting to do anything. Take for example skating in the middle of the road or in the mall, bad idea. So make sure to always be mindful of your surroundings and see if there’s anything hazardous and what not. And always, try to avoid or stay away from anything harmful or that’s beyond your skill level. It is also important to know your skills and abilities. Don’t perform tricks that you think you are not yet capable of doing. Know your body and limitations so that you won’t end up hurting yourself. Don’t be clumsy or reckless whenever you jump on that board.

Skate in appropriate places. Avoid skating in dangerous areas like stairs and escalators if you aren’t skilled enough to do it. If you watched skating videos of people getting injured, you might find that most injuries are caused by environmental factors. Search such things on YouTube or watch for TV shows that feature such. Get ready to watch for people who are in great deals of pain and agony.

So when you skateboard, make sure you skate in safe places. Avoid doing things that will be very risky and dangerous especially when you’re not aware of the dangers. You don’t want to be the next one featured on such TV shows such as Sport’s disasters and Extreme accidents.
