Given their chance, some Internet sites would probably keep you from checking out several sites. You would instead be at a site known as an Internet portal most of the time. A virtual community is what Internet portals try to create so that users feel that they belong.

Described as Super sites, Internet portals desire to cater to your every whim. The sites are so tempting to users primarily because of the free stuff they offer.

E mail accounts are among the free offers of the typical Internet portal. Instant messaging, popular among users, is also offered along with chat rooms and message boards. It wouldn’t be complete without the ever famous no cost search engine.

You are influenced into thinking that you are not just visiting a Web site because of these services. I call this the American express approach to Web sites. The term members stuck well with people more than customers or cardholders, as revealed by an American express survey.

This explains the appearance of the slogan Membership has its Privileges. This is the same way portals work. What value can these portal sites give to this sense of community? Money reigns in the situation.

These sites produce free services, and so they must sell online advertising space in order to earn income. Since you will feel more like a member and will enjoy more free services, then there will be a tendency for you to invest more of your online time at that site. The site can opt to increase its advertising charge.

Advertisements will doubtless be found at every portal you go to. Netscape was one of the first to put the portal concept into action.

Instead of starting from scratch, it tied up with other Internet companies in offering free services. The netcenter can provide e mail because of the net address e mail service of USA.net.

Business related discussion groups, a career center, and an online auto buying area are just some of the many services that netcenter offers. Web surfers almost always use Internet search engines. We don’t wonder now why many of these search engines have adopted the portal concept.

Adequate portal features, free e mail services, and search facilities are what AltaVista has to offer. There’s a page on which you can type in text and have it translated from English to French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish or vice versa.

One of my favorite sites on the Web, Yahoo has made waves as both a search tool and a portal site. Searching is for free, so is an e mail account. My yahoo, a personal yahoo account for yourself, can be made.

An online jave version as well as a downloadable version of the Yahoo pager can now be used. In order to get Yahoo as your Internet service provider, you have to sign up.
Because of eGrocer, you can buy your groceries online. The excite product finder adds a new dimension to your online shopping experience.

Sites and prices are listed at the touch of a button. The search engine is also at your disposal.

The same features are available at lycos. Lycos may be a worthwhile site, but it already offers the same as any portal site. The unique thing about lycos is that it offers free home pages, something not common to other portal sites.

How much time and money did you spend developing your website? Would you want your site to be popular so that it will do wonders for you? Utilizing local SEO must be one of the central elements of your business plan. This is the only way you can compete for customers with leading companies because they do not compete well on a local level. Conversely, the better search engine optimized your website is, the better it is found by searchers when they look for your products. Did you know that, with as much as 90% of the traffic goes to the sites listed on the front page, only half of that go to the sites listed on the top 3 of the organic results?

While it is tough enough to improve search engine results as often as they change their algorithm, it is equally difficult to update your web pages content and distribute them to all the mediums your customers desire. Look for ways to improve your customer search experience as it will affect your ranking in the search engine. Get on board with a local SEO company to be in the inner circle and stay on top of the Internet Marketing trends.
How Should a Small Business Plan Their SEO?

As consumers start searching for products through the search engines, organic SEO will generate traffic and thousands of sales leads for your business. This will expose you to a large number of customers and level the playing field when competing with large corporations who spends money on paid SEO to attract customers.

Here are some of the steps to optimize your website for SEO:
Select keywords relevant to your products and services. Go for long tail keywords or phrases as exact keywords for your company can be difficult to rank.

Regularly optimize your website content focusing on local search, on-site optimization, linkbuilding, and social media. Ensure that you have access to change you website content to let you make more keywords when targeting new visitors. Do not forget to include primary and secondary keywords in the homepage title, and meta tags, as well.

Increase your traffic ranking by generating inbound links. This can be done by writing powerful contents, asking trusted website to promote your business, and enlisting your business to paid or unpaid directories.

Register your business sites to Google, Yahoo and Bing local sites to get you in front of users searching for your product/service.

Interact on the social media to get found up your web presence
Measure your search engine results to evaluate your strategy and focus your efforts on high-conversion keywords.

Website Design Service

Does your website needs a website design service? It is virtually indispensable to confirm what your requirements and goals are. Creating a website that converts traffic to sales is only useful when it delivers.

If your website is designed to be the online image of your organization, it should provide plenty of information about your business products/services. Short sales videos and frequently asked questions should also be provided so that potential customers will know who you are.

If your website has no real-world stores, office or premises, your website should be fully e-commerce and receive a wide range of electronic payments. This site should be configured to deliver physical goods with full integration with delivery and shipping services.

Creating a website used to be done with just a simple static HTML pages. Today, a high level of functionality, security and interactivity, is what small business website design should be focused no matter what your website goals may be. It should be designed so that it will become a lead generation magnet. Your website should also provide valuable information to attract customers.

Is Video marketing effective for Small Business?

Google also indexes videos and blends it with other content listings. Video marketing increases search engine ranking because it can increase your business popularity. Informative videos on YouTube are being watched by people and shared with their friends. Video marketing can work for anyone who does it well. But, if you need to create a viral video and make the most out of your video marketing efforts, you will need the help of an Internet Marketing expert to show what works best for your company and watch it grow.

There are still a lot of blemishes on Internet search engines even if it seems quite fascinating. They provide us too many facts that do not really help us.

Browsing all the pages that Google finds is hassling, but some interesting tools are improving the ways on how people dig up details on the internet.

Search results are automatically sorted and categorized with a blink of an eye, by innovative software and presents more details than the usual textual list.

One patron of an Internet company said they revive if not the numbing procedure of digging out details that rapidly places search results into easy access categories.

Free web searches at its online page are suggested by this technology from the company based in Pittsburgh and it is being distributed to companies and investigative agencies.

If the Internet is a giant bookstore in which all the books are piled randomly on the floor, then our company is like a super fast librarian who can instantly arrange the titles on shelves in a way that makes sense.

This is designed to fight information overload like a 21st century Dewey Decimal system. Different from libraries, the establishment in no way makes use of predefined categories. While depending on the outcome of the search, the software determines them as it flies. The filing undergoes a process of combined linguistic and numerical analysis which is a method proven to work across languages.

A similar process powers another software, a downloadable program that not only sorts search results into categories but also maps the results in a holistic way, showing each category as a colorful circle.

And inside these circles are even smaller ones that can be clicked on and zoomed in on to show the subcategories. It requires some time to master this. But the value of its nonlinear approach quickly becomes clear.

An example is when you initially wanted to known about accommodations in France, you find yourself stuck on information about Paris Hilton.

Google would take this as an order to explore all the possible categories under one category which is regional Europe travel and tourism along with hotel lodging but also produces page after page content that brims with links on Paris Hilton and the latest news about this heiress.

That’s for the reason that Google’s engine positioning pages are broadly based on how many other sites link to them, sending the most well liked pages to the top of the rank.

But then you might be surprised to find that after you run the search, the results found in the circles would be featuring all possible categories related to Paris Hilton along with tons of feedback, maps and even online booking services offered for people who would like to get booked in a Hilton hotel in Paris, all of which have been buried in Google’s ranking procedures.

Now you can proclaim how the sites you find are not the ones useful only to Internet gawkers but are in fact the ones essential to your needs.

The company that has set standards even with just 15 workers still cannot replace Google despite its ability to produce great results evident with how it launched the program last year and quickly followed it up with an upgraded second version priced at $49.

It is not in itself a search engine, it only analyzes and illustrates search engines’ results. A good example is that it will not arrange your files according to the folders you’ve placed them in but instead work by categorizing and mapping out the files on your hard drive and arranging them based on what it contains. The results from six various search engines such as Yahoo and MSN is combined when this is used to search the web.

By the year 2004, the corporation aims to release about two dozen downloadable plug ins that will set its colored circles free on a more broad assortment of catalogs, which includes the Library of Congress, news Web sites and Google itself.

We now have the capability to search anything. Simply put, the Google plug in is primarily just a market test Google and the other company will analyze its performance and that’s when they will consider if they should work on creating a new Web service together.

Google Speaker didn’t comment a single word about this. He also failed to reveal if Google would boost its services with visualization aids and categorization techniques.

More and more shoppers and potential clients are using the Internet search engines to find both local and international businesses on the Internet before making contact by phone or in person. It is extremely valuable to have a strong online presence especially now that we see the constant rise of Internet ready mobile communication products. You must put on top of your marketing essentials the need to put up a local search if you choose to venture into providing local products or services.

A leading company in research studies assert that between 30 and 40 percent of the 14 billion and growing monthly searches traced in America often involves either or both local intent and geographic limitations on certain search prompts such as the nearest car wash center or maybe the closest barber shop. There is no stopping search engines as they keep gaining higher ground against both printed directories as well as Web sites that focus on localized listings on businesses as the prime source of business information especially local ones. More than enabling you to maintain your professional web site, the best perk derived from local search is allowing you to have an economic and effective means of building your business by increasing the traffic in both your web site and doorstep.

To make sure that your company is comprehensively and accurately covered in local sites and directory listings, adhere to the following steps. Signing up with the foremost search engines when it comes to local and social searches like Google, Yahoo, AOL, Microsoft or Ask would be very wise.

They fortify your directory for business after you sign with them for free. Make sure you are listed and include your Web address.

Sites that build directories from user generated reviews are also good venues to sign up with. A wise habit would be ensuring that both your company profile and free online business directory listings are frequently updated.

Be on the lookout for firms that provide listing data for minor search directories. Sign up with top directory companies.

By featuring local search, you optimize the performance of your web site. For the site’s title and content, it is a must to use simple local geographical words. A map of your location as well as your company’s contact details on every footer of your site’s pages is also a good feature.

The following may also be undertaken to jazz up your site local daily news reports, staff bios through hometown features and even local community news set within a company’s history.

Your listings’ accuracy and visibility will be increased further once you avail of the directory submission service. For time saving purposes, it is wise to go with a dependable partner that will list your web site to the most crucial search engines, guides, portals and directories, along with your profile for a very minimal price. While many companies charge according to the number of manual submissions, there are firms which offer a flat rate of $30 per year for a comprehensive submission service.

To create the groundwork of other online marketing means, search engine advertising and optimization, entrepreneurs must be able to fulfill what is needed to develop their company web sites and making sure that the information they give out, through local search engines are accurate, complete and accessible. A college based business development hub will be able offer you various workshops with a computer firm that walk you through these necessary processes in fortifying your free web sites.

The Internet was not created by our ex Vice-President of the United States of America. No, contrary to our Nobel Peace Prize winners claim some years ago. I am not trying to pick on him but you realize that he had nothing; and I mean nothing to do with the Internet.

The Internet has evolved from a few modems, to hundreds to literally millions of modems to the info-speedway that it is today. I am claiming here and now that the Internet is just in its infancy and soon it will to even be referred to as the Internet. For example, you don’t say “Hey, I am going to make a telephone call on the telephone line grid,” do you?

No, Really you just say that you are “Going to Google that” or “Email you real quick.” That is actually how it will be in the future. So, we will not be saying things like “I am going to get on the Internet and do this or do that.” That is not a reality, it will just be like going outside. This technology is already great and widespread but yet, still in its infancy.

Everyone knows what the DOD is, correct? It is the Department of Defense. It is a United States Governmental office that is part of the arrangement of agencies that keeps Americans safe today.

Well, the DOD decided that they needed a faster more secure way to communicate and they deployed this asynchronous modem technology to leverage better and faster communications across the great country of ours. They built an infrastructure that spanned the U.S. This was the original backbone, the infrastructure that later was replaced by more commercial circuits with what we call wider pipes. The bigger the circuit usually the faster the connection, simply because it is less likely to have contention.

You might think that the DOD has advanced past the general Internet usage, and you would be right. Think of every highway across the nation. Every road crisscrossing around is like a private circuit and with the added encryption. I do not pretend to know more than that as the Government agencies are protected and it is in our interest to protect them. This land that we love in the USA.

So, now we have agreed that the Internet was born about of dial-up modems going about a 33 kilobits per second. Back then in the 80′s, that was pretty great and amazing for Cyber geeks in the making. Then people started figuring out ways to get more out of a modem and increasing the speed. After they could raise the speed a bit, then they began to bundle them. After they began to bundle them then it was really fast.

Then came the T1′s and fractional T1′s. A T1 is a circuit that is 1.544Mbps. Mbps is an acronym that stands for Mega Bits Per Second. There are circuits 100 or even 1000 times bigger now circling the globe. They connect ISP to ISP.

ISP is another name for Internet Service Provider. They are who own and control ip addressing after ARIN. They also connect to each other and delegate ip’s to hosting providers. These hosting providers in turn lease space in the Colo’s or Co-Location facilities. The businesses that rent the space offer goods, services, information, or sometimes nothing.

Usually people or businesses host a website so that they can make money which of course makes sense. Why do most of us do anything? Either love or money, right? And some thing the more money you have the more love you will get, although I know know that is not true. (We can save that for another article.)

So the businesses are dotted across the Internet, across the world they reside on ISP’s. The ISP’s are connected via BGP, Border Gateway Protocol. The BGP exchange routing prefixes and the IP does the rest basically. Then the Hosting providers residing on the ISPs have companies that have their websites on them and they are all found by Search Engines.

Some of the more popular Search Engines are:

Google
Yahoo
Bing
Ask
Search

(Certainly not listed in order of popularity.)

Search Engines have become not only facilitators of access to information about what the web has to offer, but also is a big part of the experience now. Back in the 90′s you would be luck to get anything like what you wanted. It was all very spammy and pop-ups were killers. Now, at least the spammy stuff is more discounted.

Search engines are something of an enigma. You type in a keyword or two, click search and up pop some results. A quick scan of the top 10 leaves you shaking your head, wondering if you and Google are speaking the same language, as you find that your innocent search for fairy wings brought in results ranging from how to make wings to a story about some Goth chick, who likes to wear black leather wings when she goes to the grocery store. Searching through the results to find just what you are looking for can give a person a headache! The truth is, a lot of those people may not have even wanted their page to be found when you searched for fairy wings but it wasn’t up to them. It was up to the search engine. Likewise, there were probably people that did want to come up who didn’t. This is why so many businesses are focused on building a search engine friendly website. They want you to wind up at their site when you search for their products and this is the only way to make it happen!

Building a search engine friendly website has almost nothing to do with how your site will look. Color schemes, resolutions and logos mean absolutely nothing to a search engine. Search engines are all about relevancy. When you enter a search term, the search engine will scour the internet for sites that are relevant to what you are searching for. They will look for sites that have a name that matches the keyword somehow. They will look for content that contains the keywords and they will look for how many times a site is linked to for that keyword. The engine then takes all of that information and weighs it somehow, ending with the list of results that it delivers to your screen. The rub is, nobody is 100% sure what will count the most and which things will help move their site to the top of the list most quickly.

If you are building a website, that you want people to find then you will need to take a couple of steps to give yourself the best chance at being found. The name of your site is a really important first step. If your name is Michael, and your site is going to be about widgets, then you will do better to name your site “www.widgets.com” than you would be to name it “www.michaelssite.com”. Unless of course you want to play host to a horde of visitors that were looking for Michael, in which case, go for it.

Building a search engine friendly website means building your site to be very clearly about whatever it is about. Michael’s widget site should have content that talks about widgets. It should talk about what sizes widgets come in, what the most popular widgets are and what kind of wine you should serve with widgets at a dinner party. The goal is to make sure that the words that you think people who are looking for a site like yours are featured prominently on your site, without just repeating the same word again and again and again.

You may think that you are building your website to be attractive and fun for your visitors, but if you want to have visitors in the first place, it is actually more important that you focus on building a search engine friendly website. Once you have that, the rest is all icing.

Google Analytics is such a powerful tool to use – it actually allows you to decide what you want to measure on your website. You can literally put this tool to work for you and personalize it as well.

Google Analytics allows you to identify you ideal objective, goals and specifics. If all you want to know is who visited your website and how they got there – that is simple enough, you can do that. However, the power of Google Analytics lies in the ability to define goals and put on filters that will allow you to do in-depth analysis of your website.

What does this mean? Let’s break it down for you so you understand how Google Analytics works to your advantage. First of all, Google works with objectives, goals, and specifics these allow you to really hone in on what you are trying to accomplish when managing your website.

Objectives: An objective is the big picture – what do you want your website to do? What is the purpose for your website – what do you want visitors to do once they are there?

If you are an e-commerce site maybe you want to sell an item and make lots of money. On the other hand, you may want to know what products are selling and what products you should take off your catalogue.

This would be an objective.

Goals: If objectives are the result you ultimately want to achieve with your website,a goal is a short term aim. What has to happen for you to hit your objective. Do you have to track visitors that enter on a certain web page? Or perhaps your goal is to sell 30% more widgets within 6 months.

You can do this using Google Analytics as the tool and setting goals within the application.

Specifics: Now that you have outlined your objectives and goals you are ready to use Analytics to your advantage. Specifics are the “how” the action steps you will take to reach what you really want.

Example: You would set up the sales page and a funnel (using google analytics) to measure how traffic is coming into your website. Google can tell you where they are entering as well as where your visitors are exiting your website. Knowing how your visitors are responding to your website allows you to go to these pages and tweak them – this help you achieve the results you want.

Google has made it easy to place code in your web pages, they do the initial metrics for you and best of all it is free.

If you are not particularly savvy about how your website is put together or developed – leave it up to your website professional to add the code to your individual web pages. Once the code is embedded analytics will start collecting data and within a few days you will see countless stats related to your site.

Once you become familiar with the dashboard that Google Analytic’s provides, you will be able to set up the goals and specifics of your website. You will access all the data through the Internet, you can login and set the parameter right then and there.

Another great function of Google Analytics is that you can set up different profiles for one website. You can break down your website into different sections called “profiles” and monitor them independently, this allows you to see which sections of your website are effective and which need work.

AdWords and Analytics

Google AdWords is a pay-per-click advertising program. Essentially you would buy keywords and then pay a small amount for every time a potential client (website visitor) clicks on an ad you put up through Google.

If you are thinking about using AdWords as part of your marketing campaign or are using them already, Google works seamlessly in providing you with the answers to all important questions like, is this add working or am I making more money on these ads then I am spending? You will be able to monitor visitors who click on the ads and buy and those who just leave your site before every going to the sales page.

When you sign up for Google AdWords use the same account number as you did with analytics (Google uses your gmail accounts login and password). You will then be able to link both accounts together. AdWords will be imported into your Google Analytics account. This helps provide you with a safety net so you can watch the behavior of your visitors and change what isn’t working.

The development team at Google has a way of making their tools very usable and Google Analytics is just one of many tools that lives up to Googles high standards.

The World Wide Web offers a plethora of information on everything under the sun. With billions of sites at your disposal, searching for the information you need can be daunting, especially for the uninitiated. For those who have no clue where to begin, the best search engines available on the web is a good place to start.

For general information services, Google is the web search engine mostly used by web denizens. It offers language translation services as well as different options to customize your search. Google has a PageRank system, which utilizes algorithm in determining which websites appear on top of the list of search results. This system prevents sites that use spamming from appearing at the top of the page. Aside form websites, Google also includes other file types like Word documents, PDFs, spreadsheets, and plain text files in their results.

Yahoo! Search is another popular search engine, and is ranked 2nd query volume. Yahoo! utilizes SearchScan, which alerted users of websites with possible viruses, spam and spyware. Yahoo! started out as a directory to various websites before it became a search engine during the 1990s. Using all the search engine companies it acquired, Yahoo! created its own search engine using the web crawler system, which browses the web for results matching the user’s query. Starting 2009, Yahoo! Search is powered by its competitor Bing, which is owned by Microsoft.

Ask.com, formerly known as Ask Jeeves, started out as a website where people received answers for questions they posted, combined with basic keyword searching. In 2006, it became a full-blown search engine, and the character Jeeves was phased out. Ask.com has a “Binoculars Site Preview” function which allows users to glimpse a sneak peak of a website by placing the cursor over the result to get a pop-up screenshot. Ask.com also has an installable toolbar, where users can search for sites direct from their internet browser toolbar.

Bing is a search engine developed by Microsoft using the web-crawler system. Search results are broken down into sections, where each result includes a sub-link, which shows other links located within the site itself. It also features a navigation pane, where users can track previous and related searches, and glimpse a preview of each site in the search result, as well as links inside the site. The site also has a video thumbnail preview feature, where users can mouse-over video results to play the video. Bing also caters to specific searches like sports, finance, and even mathematical information. If asked, Bing can display scores from games, complete with team and player statistics. It can also display stock quotes when users key in a company’s stock symbol, as well as generate mathematical computations when users type in mathematical equations on the search box.

Though there many search engines throughout the web, Google, Yahoo!, Ask.com and Bing are your best bets at finding exactly what you’re searching for, with their extensive archives, plus a myriad of advanced features, they make internet surfing safer and simpler, to make sure you don’t get lost amid the confusing roads and byways of the world wide web.

Visit these sites if you want more information about best search engines or search engine sitemaps in particular.

The power of the internet is immerse. According to google there were over 180 million domain names in 2008. The opportunities are there for the taking. The secret is how to be found by your unknown market. Your unknown market being people that need to buy goods or services but do not yet know you.

Firstly question what your objective is for having a website. Is it a 24 hour a day shop window designed to increase turnover. Is it an information giving website that will free up your own resources?

I mean by this phone calls, postage costs, and all associated costs with delivering company information to clients.

Maybe your objective is to offer premium support to your exisiting customers. Whatever your main objective is, it can form the begninning of an effective and rewarding web marketing plan.

Do you know that internet users are split three way into sectors when they are using the internet to source products or services? The one we focus on is those why are ready to buy.

If you are using your website to find new customers, or the unknown market as its known in the advertising world then its crucial to target those searchers who are ready to buy. Sure those browsing can increase visitor numbers but the key to success is finding new paying customers.

Websites can be created that look mindblowingly terrificvery but what is often overlooked is that the internal framework, coding, and general foundations are not designed to ensure that the site can be found in the natural search results. Sites that perform to the max are crafted with special and specific attention to internal detail.

Templated websites can be nasty, inflexible and sometimes impossible to optimise and as a result you make an investment that can never give you a return.

You would not believe the number of firms out there who have am amazing looking website launched but no analytics. Analytics will allow you to see important data. For example how many visitors you had and when, how long visitors stay on the site for, keywords and route taken to get to your site and top level growth data.

Find a company that produce websites which are produced in such a way that specific Meta Tag and other code can be very specifically populated to be picked up by search engines.

Before you ask a design company to start work, its worthhile to think about the following. Pages to be included in the website. Number of pages. Images of your own which you will require integrating into the site. Textual content. Any transactional requirements. DO you want a blog, news page, enquiry forms. Will you run a newsletter than people can sign up to. Will you require a login service so that customers can log into a secure area of the site.

Any reputable web design company will guide you through this as part of the design process, but its productive and sometimes less costly to have input from the start.
