We live in a fast paced world where there never seems to be enough time to do what we want to do. We all have varied interests, but what many people have in common is the fact that they all go online to get their content, whether it is the joke of the day, the latest shenanigans of their favourite blogger, or the score of last night’s ballgame. Let’s say for argument’s sake that your interests happen to include all of the above. That’s three different sites that you would have to visit separately to get all your desired content, which isn’t too many. But what if you had ten sites that you visited on a regular basis? It would be extremely time-consuming to visit one site after the other and in this day and age, some people simply do not have enough time. Enter RSS.

Really Simple Syndication, or RSS for short, is a way of distributing updates via a live data feed to users so that they do not have to constantly check for new content on your website. RSS feeds can be read using services like FeedBurner or Google Reader which shows your site’s feed in an easy to view format and lets your reader browse through your latest updates.

People can choose to subscribe to feeds from multiple sites and aggregate them all into one viewing program so that it saves them from having to visit multiple sites and check for updated content. RSS readers and aggregators essentially make it extremely convenient for people to have all their favourite websites’ content shown in one place.

People have the ability to subscribe to RSS feeds at sites they are interested in and to unsubscribe at any time. Unlike email newsletters, RSS feeds do not require the submission of your name or email address, so you are guaranteed not to get any spam. This is one of the reasons why many people feel more confident in subscribing to an RSS feed rather than an email newsletter.

We’ve established the fact that RSS feeds are big time-savers for Internet users because they can get all their favourite content in one place. For content publishers and bloggers, RSS feeds allow them to automatically and immediately syndicate their content. There is no further need for waiting for the search engines to index a new blog post and no need to engage in too much traffic generation at all because your RSS feed subscribers will be immediately notified of any updates to your site. If your blog’s contents are good, then your readers will feel obliged to share it via social media and social networking sites, so this and your feed takes care of the majority of the traffic generation that you need to do.

As a blogger or a webmaster, you need to have an RSS feed on your site, or else you will be doing a disservice to your loyal followers who crave more of your content. If you are an avid web surfer who visits many different sites a day for interesting stories and other content, then you need to start subscribing to RSS feeds. You will save countless hours of your time in the long run.

RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’, it is a format for distributing and gathering content from sources across the Web, including newspapers, magazines, and blogs. With RSS you can quickly and easily get the latest updates from all your favourite websites in one place, rather than having to visiting them one by one. To do this you use an RSS reader that automatically checks for news and updates.

How can you tell if a website has an RSS feed?
Often you will see a small orange feed icon saying ‘RSS’, ’subscribe’ or ‘feed’ next to it. Usually you just copy and paste the feed link into your RSS reader. Another great thing about RSS feeds: No spam and complete user control; unsubscribing to RSS feeds are as easy as it can get just delete it, and it is gone. Period.

Choosing an RSS reader
There are many different ‘feed readers’ (also known as RSS readers, RSS aggregators or simply newsreaders) to choose from, but they can be divided into two main types: web-based and application based. Web-based readers have the benefit that you can check your feeds from any computer, while the stand-alone applications often have more features and greater flexibility.

Browsers such as Internet Explorer 7, Firefox and Safari also have built-in RSS readers, although these are not as flexible and versatile as using a separate application.

Web Based RSS Readers
All you have to do is to sign up for an account and you can add as many feeds as you want. Below are a few of the most popular; some sites will have buttons that allow you to add it to these RSS readers automatically. Otherwise, just copy and paste the RSS feed link into your reader and you are up and running.

MyYahoo
Bloglines
MyMSN
NewsGator
GoogleReader

Locally installed RSS Readers
If you prefer, you can download an RSS reader and install it on your computer, below are links to a few of the most popular. Some of these are freeware/open source, others charge a licence fee:

FeedReader [Freeware]
Attensa
Lektora [Win, Mac and Linux]
Klipfolio
FeedIt [Open-source]
Blogbot for Outlook
Vienna [Mac OS X, freeware]
NewsFire [Mac OS X]
Browsing and subscribing to feeds is not that complicated. Today there are well over 2,000 different feed readers. Some require a small purchase fee but there are many free readers out there too. Performing a search for ‘feed reader’ or ‘feed aggregator’ on popular search sites will yield many results.
Managing your reader online has an advantage of being able to access your feed updates anywhere you can find a web browser. Plus upgrades and new features are added automatically.

Typically the feed reader will display your feeds and the number of new entries within each of those feeds. You can customize your feeds into categories of your choice and save your favourite entries.

If you were confused or did not know how to get started, hopefully this is a more palatable form to digest.

RSS is the acronym for Real Simple Syndication, one of the Internets less creative titles for an ingenious method of tying yourself to your customer. It is a fast way to deliver the latest developments on your website to your customer.

Many Internet users have a number of websites that they like to keep in touch with to stay on top of what is going on. Oftentimes these sites are news and entertainment providers. These sites originated the notion of the RSS feed. They offered their viewers the opportunity to sign up for a direct feed of new information from their site to the viewers site. The viewer signs up and gets a notice whenever there is new information from the site. The Internet user can essentially create a dashboard of all the sites and material they want to see on a regular basis.

Online retailers have taken this concept and run with it, signing up customers with feeds that announce sales, promote new content and generally keep themselves in front of their cutomers on a regular basis.

Here are some ideas for using RSS feeds:

- Send product information to other web stores for their inclusion in their product catalogues.

- Distribute website content to news engines and content aggregation sites

- Communicate with affiliates

- Announce new products, special discounts or new article content to buyers.

- Supply training content to customers or affiliates

Creating a Feed

You can create a feed by using RSS creation software. This software transforms your material into XML-based format, which is then uploaded to a Web-server. To find the right feed creator, search for CNET’s RSS Creators review. You will find over thirty software products to choose from.

Once you have used your software to create your feed, be sure to test it to verify that it is error-free. You can visit the FeedValidator org site to validate it.

You will want to create one feed for each section of your site (for example, one for Product Updates, one for News, another for Service Updates, etc).

When you are satisfied that your RSS links work the way you want them to, create a page that contains links to all your feeds (also known as a Feeds sitemap). Most websites link to the feeds sitemap from their home page, using icons like XML, RSS and RML.

Your more experienced website users will already be familiar with the feature but it is better to add some langauge explaining the feature for people who are less Internet-savvy.

Although many Internet users know what it is, a large majority still needs to be educated. You can do this by adding a few words about the usefulness of this technology, how to subscribe to it, read it, and its benefits to the user.

Use a Directory

As with most marketing tools on the Internet, RSS directories have emerged. It makes sense to submit your feeds sitemap webpage to the directories because directory listing may be more likely to be picked up by search engines than your web page.

Once you are up and running, keep your feeds fresh and full of new and interesting information in order to attract and maintain a large following of subscribers.

Source wholesale, wholesalers in UK, dropshippers, dropship and dropshipping suppliers now. Browse wholesale UK by country: Wholesale Italy wholesalers, Wholesale USA & American wholesalers.

While RSS was at one point only considered to be a means to deliver news headlines, RSS has quickly become a powerful medium to get all kinds of information.

As traditional marketers are attempting to rein in content delivery, measuring e-mail open rates, click-throughs and conversions, Internet users are fighting to gain control over the content they receive.

To learn about XML (eXtensible Markup Language) we need to first know what markup languages are. Markup languages are designed for the processing, definition, and presentation of documents containing structured information. The language specifies code for formatting, both the layout and style, within a text file or document. HTML is an example of a widely known and much-used markup language.

The differences between XML and HTML are, noting that XML is not a replacement for HTML:
- XML has been designed to transport and store data, with a focus on what data is
- HTML has been designed to display data, with a focus on what data looks like

In other words, HTML is about displaying information, while XML is about carrying information.

Why XML?
In order to appreciate XML, it is important to understand why it was created. The foremost reason being so that data could be exchanged over the web. The only viable markup language alternatives for this purpose, HTML and SGML, are not practical as HTML is bound with a set of semantics that do not allow for arbitrary structure, while SGML, although it does allow for arbitrary structure, is too complex to implement just for a web browser.

A well known example of the use of XML is RSS (Rich Site Summary) feeds, which is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it on a regular, up-to-date basis. In reality, these so-called RSS-feeds are nothing less than XML files.

Another important reason for the development of XML is that it allows for the use of data from more sources and in more ways as it has become a widely accepted standard for exchanging data between any number of computer systems. Why use it? Businesses today thrive on data, and said data can come from a number of sources and in a variety of formats (such as databases, web pages, spreadsheet files, etc.). Data can be extracted from various original sources, stored at a location of your choosing, and accessed whenever required by you, therefore enabling you to get more from that data.

For example, if you are required to create a report on budget data for the past three years, however you have stored that data, if it’s in XML, you can select what you need and import it into a document, worksheet, or database – whatever the situation requires.

XML and Excel
Microsoft Office 2003 Professional was the first Office version that took the XML standard seriously.

It is common knowledge that many businesses use Excel to edit and prepare data. It is easy to use and is widely available, and its tabular format is ideally suited to all kinds of information processing, such as inventory lists, customer records, financial data, statistical data, and much more.

XML is called “Extensible” for a good reason: you can extend it by adapting it to fit almost any requirement. In business, publishing, government, science, academic research – anywhere that information moves from one user to another. And it is built in to Microsoft Excel, and the other applications that make up MS Office.

Excel 2003 training will provide you with a greater understanding of the benefits to business and yourself of making use of XML for data handling and storage.

RSS is fast replacing email merchandising and newsletters. You would not hope to be left behind would you? Your competitor will surely overtake you and speed right up. RSS is mostly called Really Simple Syndication, tho’ some give other meaning to the acronym. It is a process through which you could place a feed on websites that can read them from your directory.

Information distribution has been made simple through RSS. Simply put, with them, you can place your headline to other website for more people to see it. In marketing, it is a known concept that the more people you reaches to, the more plausibly that your product will sell.

RSS is an XML-based application. XML is similar in a way to HTML, which we all know is the most common website creator application. From a directory, it would feed the headlines into website that has a reader. Creating a feed would definitely boost up your sales. How can you make a feed? Just follow these simple steps:

Create a file for your feed.
Using a certain format, you’d have to create the XML version of your feed. It should include the title or the headline, the body’s short description, and the link where it can be read. There are a lot of different RSS web channel editor you can use for this. Some programs just need you to write news and articles down on a notepad and when placed throughout the editor, it will show up with the necessary formatting ready for upload. It would be advisable to make at least ten articles for your feed.

Save and Upload the file.
After creating your file, save your work as an XML, RSS, or an RDF file. Then you are now ready to upload it. Upload the file using your FTP program and place it during your web server. This process now makes the file readable through feed news aggregators.

Validate the file.
Make your feed program error-free. RSS is programming, so errors could lie unseen. Again, there are different programs that can assist you for this process. You would just want to place the saved and uploaded file for the program to test it against incorrect and missed code and tags. It is necessary for you to check your work of course. This way, you’re sure that what you have is readable and usable.

Create a directory.
Now that you have created the file, saved it, and developed sure it works, you are ready to let other see it. The main aim of an RSS feed is to broadcast it to all enabled sites. So go frontward and look for a directory where you can place your feed. Some may need fees for uploading a directory. Some offer it for free. Scout roughly and round up all the free sites you can have and place it there. Whenever you have some marketing budget, you might desire to subscribe to sites that charge a minimal amount. Don’t forget to place an icon of your feed on your website, too for those people who visit you directly.

Update regularly.
With RSS, you know that the feed changes automatically every time you change the main file. Don’t let your feed sit there for a month without modifying it. Maintain it. Add new articles. The more exciting your topic is, the more people will check your feeds and visit your website.

Creating an RSS feed for Internet merchandising is developed very simple now a days. Even souls who are not computer savvy can create feeds, based during the steps provided above. The applications that were created for the creation are the ones that make it easy for everyday computer consumers to make a feed. All you want is familiarization with the process.

Start now creating RSS feeds. Give your competitor something fierce to duel with. Needless to say, feeds give your website more traffic than usual web hosting. And web traffic means more individuals seeing your wares that could be interested in buying them. Add strength to your selling strategy. Make feeds and be ready to sell.

RSS – or what is now known as “Really Simple Syndication” – is a file format that is incorporated through Internet users in their websites to permit for ‘web syndication’, making their web content uncommitted in a format that can be universally understood through other people.

In essence, RSS is a ‘mini database’ that contains headlines and descriptions (a summary or a line or two of the full article) of your web content, including hyperlinks that enable users to link rearward to the full article of their choice.

RSS websites – that is, websites that contain RSS ‘feeds’ (articles or postings) – typically have colourful graphics to indicate to users that the specific web content is uncommitted through RSS feeds. These graphics are normally depicted through orange rectangles that are ordinarily marked with ‘RSS’ or ‘XML’.

With its increased popularity, RSS is now being adopted and used through more website owners or publishers. Today, numerous resources are now available that assistance Internet surfers (and even beginners as well) throughout how to set up and use RSS.

Setting up RSS feeds and adding them to your website can be a simple process that does not involve a lot of time or any money. Listed below are some simple and basic steps that you might desire to follow:

1. Have your web content and/or news in an RSS feed format, such as XML (appropriate and ‘ready-made’ feeds are also uncommitted from other sources).

2. Click the orange graphic – this is the RSS feed icon. Take note of the URL of the RSS feed; this will be displayed in the address bar (for Internet Explorer).

3. Input the feed URL throughout your RSS feed creation program.

4. Click throughout the “Generate Feed” button. This will generate the RSS code for your web content.

5. Enter the RSS code in the appropriate place during your own website.

Having created an RSS feed for your website, next comes the task of publishing your web content and news and having them displayed on other sites and headline viewers. This is developed possible with the use of RSS readers or aggregators.

RSS readers or news aggregators are used to view particular web contents. RSS readers contain the collection of ‘feeds’ or RSS files from content providers, and they are generally classified into 3 types:

*	Desktop RSS readers – also known as standalone desktop application, they generally ‘run’ in the background and are similar to an e-mail client, collecting the feeds and refreshing items automatically as they are updated.

*	Web-based aggregators – these are online services that enable users to personalize web pages, refreshing them each time the page is accessed or each time a person logs in to the service.

*	Plug-in aggregators/readers – these make use of either web browsers or e-mail clients, which permit consumers to view RSS feeds although inside an existing program.

Having an RSS-enabled website provides Internet users (especially those who are website owners) with the following benefits:

*	Allows consumers to generate up-to-date news and postings, as info and content in the RSS readers or aggregators are automatically updated each time the RSS feed is ‘refreshed’.

*	Allows consumers to have control over the information that they wish to view or receive, as they can remove a feed of their choosing any time they want to.

Aside from these benefits, RSS websites are also useful for individuals who conduct their business in the Internet, particularly in Internet or Online merchandising. RSS can be an effective selling tool for your website, especially in the following fields:

*	E-mail dealing and publishing
*	Search engine trading and optimization
*	Business blogging
*	Internet advertising
*	Digital public relations
*	Branding and e-commerce

In addition, RSS can ‘power’ your website, providing you with the following:

*	Valuable, updated, and applicable resources for site visitors and potential clients – RSS is paragon for websites that contain (and syndicate) a lot of info that has to be changed or updated regularly.

*	Search engine optimization for the website.

*	Increased traffic for the website – your website can ‘harvest’ and display information from other sites, driving more traffic to your own website.

*	A wide selection of ‘channels’ for content distribution, such as PDA’s, cellular phones, voice mails, and email ticklers.

*	A reliable way to have your web content delivered to Internet users and potential clients – RSS ensures that your site is viewed through the souls who are interested in them, without having them blocked and ‘cleaned’ through ISPs or Spam filters.

These are just some of the advantages that RSS can give your website (and your business). The possibilities are endless, as more and more comes up almost mundane. Do not be left behind – take the advantage of the marketing and publishing power of RSS.

RSS or Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary is the most recent information management tool that is gradually earning popularity among web consumers and website owners. With RSS technology, it is possible to get the latest postings from your favourite websites. But clicking on the RSS or XML button in a homepage is not enough to give you the service you require. An RSS feed or code displayed in the pop-up screen if not on the main page is composed of symbols and words that would only make sense to advanced RSS users and computer programmers and software enthusiasts. Another software tool called an RSS aggregator or reader is needed.

An aggregator works by scanning the worldwide web with most recent postings based during the RSS code (containing the website’s URL) provided or added by the user. If it finds a new posting, news, or update, it will publish the RSS feed throughout your home page containing the title of the posting, which also serves as a clickable link to the website source. This RSS feed may or may not contain the whole article, a summary, and photos, depending during what RSS aggregator you are using.

Aggregators come in two types: the downloadable program or desktop-type and the online or web-based type. The desktop aggregator normally charges a certain amount for its services; this would include regular updating in the form of upgrades or patches to the original version. This type of RSS reader allows more customization of RSS feeds as well as page format or design over its on-line counterparts. But of course, toll can be a drawback.

On-line or web-based aggregators are free of charge. All you require to do is register an account with them then you can start enjoying their services. Depending on the ‘brand’ of the aggregator, customization is more limited. Some even do not allow you to customize at all.

Product and service advertisers are realizing the potential of RSS aggregators in internet dealing. In fact, several submit RSS codes to various popular web-based aggregators to reach the growing technophile and internet-based market. My Yahoo has been instrumental in popularizing RSS technology to both users and website owners and advertisers.

At present, there are many aggregators to choose from and newer versions of the same aggregator are invariably produced through its programmers.

Beneath are some of these desktop and online aggregators:
Desktop Aggregators
1.	AmphetaDesk
-	provides individualized news channel
-	allows translation of RSS articles into email format
-	synchronization of feeds in various devices possible
-	browse and search feed capabilities save time during surfing
-	allows keyword filtering
-	blog headlines
-	button-click automatic subscription to news feeds

Disadvantage:
-	Outlook-based thus limited to Windows

3.	My Yahoo
-	wide variety of feeds e.g. news (science, technology, local), weather
-	connects to all Yahoo characteristics and services

Disadvantage
-	banner advertisements

There are also lightweight RSS aggregator extensions which are actually plug-ins to existing internet browsers. An example of which is Sage aggregator.

Advantages:
-	free of charge
-	beginner-friendly
-	reeds both RSS and Atom feeds
-	allows feed discovery
-	can be assimilated to Firefox bookmark (storage and live)
-	allows OPML feed lists imports and exports

Disadvantages:
-	good for about 12 RSS feeds
-	limited use to Mozilla-Firefox and Mozilla-Firefox supported browsers

RSS developers promise more adept characteristics in future versions of their aggregators. Microsoft is planning to include a built-in aggregator in their next Windows version. These developments are definitely something to look frontward to by all internet aficionados.

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a tool useful for saving or retaining updated information on websites that you frequently visit or websites that are your favourite. RSS utilizes an XML code which scans continuously the content or subject matter of a certain website in search for new information’s then transmits the info updates by way of feeding the info to subscribers.

RSS feeds are generally being utilized in blogs or news sites, while any website wanting to broadcast and publish information can use them. Once new information is sent, it will contain a headline, a little bit of text, and either a rundown or a brief review of the news or story. A link is required be clicked upon to read further.

So as to accept RSS feeds, a feed reader is needed, called an aggregator. Aggregators are widely and freely available online, and all that is required is a bit of searching, you will be able to locate a certain interface that best interest you. What’s more, RSS feeds can likewise be read and retrieved from cell phones and during PDAs.

Once you encounter upon a website that you hope to add or insert to the aggregator, the process can be done in two ways. Almost all sites offering an RSS feed displays an ‘RSS’ or ‘XML’ button in their homepage and with one click, it promptly add that particular feed to one’s aggregator. Some aggregator however, requires the want to copy and then paste the URL of the feed unto the program.

Whatever the method used, you can be certain that the feed will be accessible soon as you have inserted it, likewise, in just seconds, the next update can arrive. In the event that you do not anymore would want to accept or take in updates, you may simply delete or erase the feed from the aggregator.

Through e-mail subscriptions, you can receive newsletters. RSS feeds throughout the other hand, can be more convenient in keeping up with newsletter updates since they are prompt and useable in an instant; you no longer have to wait for a scheduled time or day to obtain a news summary, plus, these news will never be detained by a spam filter.
RSS feeds are widely used everyday through individuals who understand and appreciate the accessibility of fast reports and news that can be readily read and only read certain updates that appeals to them.

Aggregators

Aggregators are popular use of feeds, having several kinds. Web aggregators or portals as they are sometimes called, create this view which is then developed available in a Web page, also, Aggregators have been incorporated into e-mail patrons, consumers of desktops, or dedicated and standalone software.

Offering a collection of special features, such as combining more than a few related feeds in just a single view, hiding certain entries or statements that has been already viewed, and classifying entries and feeds, the aggregator is a versatile component.

Why make a feed available?

You will have more viewers, because now, your viewers can conveniently see your site without even going out and looking for that certain site. whilst at first, it may seem corrupt, it will in fact enhance the visibility of your site; this is so since users can easily keep up or keep tract with your site, to allow them to view in a way that they desire to; it’s more probable that guests are aware should something that is in their interest is available or accessible during your site.

For instance, every month your website broadcasts a new feature. Having no feed, your viewers will always have to keep in mind to go to your site in a certain time to see when they acknowledge something new; that is, when they can remember, and if they still have the time. However, if you supply a feed for your viewers, they can just stage to their aggregator and it will immediately provide them a link along with a description of happenings or events at your site immediately.

What format to choose?

Syndication is very confusing as it uses a lot of formats that can usually be come across in the web. However, this can easily be solved as in general, syndicated libraries are used by aggregators which conceptualize a particular format that a feed is in, in order that they can utilize a certain syndication feed.

With this, whatever format to pick is just a matter of personal preference. RSS 1.0 is far reaching, and practical should it be integrated into Semantic Web systems. RSS 2.0 is very easy and simple create through hand. And atom is an IETF Standard, does it brings constancy, stability and a natural and accepted community to affirm its usage.

RSS is an abbreviation that has evolved into the following, depending throughout their versions:

*	RDF Site Summary (also known as RSS 0.9; the first version of RSS)
*	Rich Site Summary (also known as RSS 0.91; a prototype)
*	Really Simple Syndication (also known as RSS 2.0)

Today, RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’, and it has the following 7 existing formats or versions:

*	0.90
*	0.91
*	0.92
*	0.93
*	0.94
*	1.0
*	2.0

RSS tools refer to a group of file formats that are designed to share headlines and other web content (this may be a summary or simply 1 to 2 lines of the article), links to the full versions of the content (the full article or post), and even file attachments such as multimedia files.
*	RSS feed
*	Webfeed
*	RSS stream
*	RSS channel

They are typically shown during web pages as an orange rectangle that normally has the letters XML or RSS in it.

RSS feeds can be used to deliver any kind of information. Some of these ‘feeds’ include:

*	Blogs feed – each blog entry is summarized as a feed item. This makes blog posts easier to scan, enabling ‘visitors’ to zoom in during their items of interest.

*	Article feed – this alerts readers whenever there are new articles and web contents available.

*	Forum feed – this allows users to receive forum posts and most recent discussion topics.

*	News websites – as used through major news organizations such as Reuters, CNN, and the BBC.
*	Marketing
*	Bug reports
*	Personal weblogs
