Idols rule though as long as there is pride, greed, insecurity, unhappiness and just plain evil. There has been a wide variety of idols who includes stone idols, wood idols, ashtadhatu idols & brass idols, etc. A wide variety of stone is used for making god and goddesses.

Stone idols are worshiped in homes or at the temples to improve the aura and to invoke the supernatural blessings from the native one. Stone idols are often washed with ‘ganga jal’ to symbolize the sign of purity and then ‘Abhishek’ is performed, which transforms the piece of stone into god. Ashtadhatu is a very sacred and pure alloy of eight metals namely gold, silver, copper, zinc, lead, tin, mercury. It has a very high value in Hinduism.

They are durable and last for years without noticeably decay. Brass idol is an alloy of copper and zinc and is extensively used for crafting Hindu god and goddesses.

They are often given a polish to prevent them from blackening in color. This is so, to ensure good luck. That is why today we see a lot of divine statues on desktops or mounted on the walls of many offices. In India Idols are widely used for gifting purpose.
