In today’s world, water conservation is important and therefore drip irrigation is one of the most effective ways of watering lawns, gardens and flowerbeds. A well designed drip irrigation system ensures that water loss through evaporation. Additionally a well-made irrigation system will also make sure that water is not lost any other way and is used on all of your plants, lawn and flowerbeds.

Another huge advantage from changing your watering system to drip irrigation is that a drip irrigation system can control the amount of water that makes contact with the plants in your garden. Too much moisture on some parts of crops such as the leaves, stems and fruit can stop diseases that thrive in a moist environment. It also protects fruits from becoming wet, if fruit gets wet and is then exposed to direct sunlight then fruit can become susceptible to rot.

For homeowners, the drip irrigation system is works best placed under the surface soil of the garden. This protects it from animals, gardeners and anyone else who is in the flowerbed. The drip method exposes the root system of the plant directly to water rather than waiting for the water to be absorbed through the soil. During dry weather this is the best way to water your plant; no water is lost through evaporation, all the water is used on the plant.

In larger areas of land such as farm land a drip irrigation system can make it easier to use agricultural chemicals. Since the plants are usually sprayed with chemicals above ground whilst the watering is below the leaching of the fertilizer can occur. It may be expensive for a whole farm to switch to drip irrigation but the benefits will pay off in the end.

A drip irrigation system also has the benefit of being automated. This means that during periods of particularly dry weather the farmer will be able to control the amount of water that is put on the crops and at the times this is crucial. An automated system will make sure that the crops are never overwatered or watered at a time when the sun is incredibly high in the sky, which can cause the crops to ‘burn’.

Overall drip irrigation is a great solution to all gardeners all over; from a small garden through to large crops the benefits are clear for the plants. Irrigation systems are available from many suppliers and they will be able to advise you on the best way to install your product.

Depending on the size of your business, you may need to employ the services of IT consultants to deal with your information technology requirements.

Some large organisations, including the NHS, choose to completely outsource their IT, so that a company made up of IT consultants based elsewhere geographically, and acting as a separate business, becomes the organisation’s IT department. This can be particularly beneficial if the requirements are beyond the technical abilities of the current staff and management.

It’s also beneficial if you’re unsure as to whether an in-house department with IT consultants is financially viable, because with outsourcing, each individual hour is billable and accounted for, and so labour hours are transparent. Outsourcing will also utilise a wide variety of people and knowledge at an IT firm, at a lesser cost than maintaining a whole department of IT consultants in-house, where you would be paying full-time salaries whether expertise were needed eight hours a day or not.

Specialist IT staff are notoriously hard to retain, as they are constantly head-hunted by money-hungry specialist IT recruitment consultants. You also won’t need to worry about organising and paying for training for staff on the latest technologies as an outsourcing company will be at the forefront of this.

Another benefit with outsourcing is that as an employer of services, a firm will be intent on keeping your business once it has secured it. There is generally less chance of complacency as there could potentially be with in-house staff, as you could easily take your business else where should you be unsatisfied with performance.

Outsourcing to IT consultants makes sense in some modern, online businesses, even if there is already an in-house IT department, because it offers the management the right climate to be able to focus on the goals of the business.

For example, a highly-competitive business at the cutting-edge of product launching may find that a new IT application delay can throw a spanner in the works and delay route to market, thus loosing them the competitive edge. If the in-house department is constantly busy with routine queries and problems, it won’t have the time, and possibly the expertise, to quickly rectify the problem and clear the path to market for the new product.

Different businesses have different IT requirements, and you may find that a mixture of both in-house and outsourced IT works best; with outsourcing used for very technical and up-to-the minute specialisms that it wouldn’t be financially viable to maintain an in-house team for. A good IT firm can work with you to establish the best way of working for the needs of your individual company.

The world is a busy place; we all have one hundred and one things to do and never enough time to do it all. When we run out of time things get left and when that happens accidents can occur. Whether it is a case of things getting left out around the home or jobs being left halfway through, leaving something unfinished can have drastic consequences.

So what is the answer to the problem? Having adequate storage solutions around the home of office allows for unfinished work to be placed securely out of sight and most importantly out of the way. There are several different types of storage solutions around that can help to maximise space in the room and minimize the amount of effort needed when clearing up.

One options would be to have a net mesh, this can be hung from a hook on a wall and would be perfect for storing children’s toys in. Having a mesh storage container hanging from the roof helps to keep the toys out of the child’s reach at night and also helps to keep your floor free from clutter, which makes it less likely that you will trip or slip over any toys injuring yourself.

There are many more storage solutions available, another would be to have plastic crates, these crates can then be used to stack the items, whether its children’s toys, electrical equipment, circuit boards or any other type of items that you may need to store into an orderly pile.

If the things you are looking to store are more robust then you will need some form of solid storage solutions. These can come in the form of steel cages or steel pallets. This allows you to store items securely whilst providing a see through structure for you to manage the stock inside the storage.

There are many more storage solutions available waiting to be discovered and used, all you have to do is look at how you can improve the environment surrounding you and make it cleaner and more efficient.

Storage sounds like a boring subject, but with a pinch of enthusiasm, a dash of hard work and some intelligence, we could eliminate unnecessary accidents, trips or falls from the home, office and general surroundings. That last comment made me sound a bit like Mary Poppins, which is unfortunate, but just imagine how much time you could save and how much more living you could do, without being injured.

Choosing the entertainment for any party can prove daunting; trying to please a wide range of guests can seem an impossible task, but you can’t go far wrong with mobile discos.

Alongside magicians, mobile discos are the most popular form of entertainment at children’s parties. You can’t really get it wrong with this kind of entertainment; a magician may perform below par, get a trick wrong and be the laughing stock of high-spirited children, or misjudge the age requirements and bore them, but with a mobile disco, children are tripping over themselves trying to impress each other with their funky moves and knowledge of chart lyrics.

Mobile disco DJs are usually a dab hand at getting children up and dancing, using games and fun to get even the youngest and shyest ones to enjoy themselves.
Mobile discos are also a great choice for weddings, alongside other entertainment. Adult guests, who can be somewhat shyer than children when it comes to strutting their stuff on the dance floor, often appreciate another form of entertainment before sufficient wine has been consumed and the dancing commences. Why not think about some unusual, alternative entertainment for everyone that’s sure to break the ice between guests and get the reception off to a flying start?

Hiring an adult magician is sure to ignite interest and get people talking. A good magician will mingle between tables and work around the room, performing slights of hands and puzzling tricks to make your guests laugh and gasp in amazement.

At large venues such as wedding receptions, it can be tough to please everyone as there is usually such a wide demographic, so be sure that the DJ plays hits from every decade to give everyone the chance to dance.

If you have a very niche taste in music – perhaps you’re in to trance or electro for example, try to remember that not everyone is going to share this taste. Organisers of mobile discos will generally have a good idea of what mainstream tracks to play get everyone on the dance floor, so you won’t need to devise a whole playlist, just be sure to check before hand that the DJ has all the tracks you definitely do want to hear.

Mobile discos can also be an effective money-raising tool for charities. They offer a relatively hassle-free way to get people together to have a good time; all you really need to do is organise the venue and the drinks, and let everyone dance the night away in the name of a good cause!

If you are thinking about marketing your business through leaflet distribution in London, look for a company that has a wealth of experience and knows how to target the ideal demographic for your business.

Leaflet distribution in London is one of the best ways to get exposure for your brand and services. Whatever your product or service, this form of marketing is guaranteed to land your advertisement straight into the hands of your potential customers.

Local businessman Peter Linton, who owns a pizza restaurant which also offers a local delivery and takeaway service, began using a company specialising in leaflet distribution in London last winter when sales began to take a slump.

As the weather became worse and the nights drew in, Peter was seeing less and less custom at his restaurant. The problem was compounded by the credit crunch, because one of the first luxuries people were cutting back on was dining out. Peter realised that when business slows down, advertising becomes even more important, but had already taken out three expensive full-page advertisements in his area’s local newspaper and been very disappointed with the lack of measurable response, so he decided to embark on leaflet distribution in London.

It’s important that the company a business uses for leaflet distribution has a good track record of delivering results, is trustworthy and, importantly, isn’t too cheap. Price is important, because a leaflet distribution company needs to make a profit too, and if the price seems too good to be true, it may be that corners are being cut, and leaflets not being distributed as they should be, which is of course a false economy.

Peter employed the services of a leaflet distribution company which also took care of the design work of the leaflet. Peter decided that the best way to measure the success of the exercise was to create a leaflet-based offer which entitled the bearer to a buy-one-main-course-get-one-free deal if dining in, and free starters with any takeaway order.

After just two weeks of leaflet distribution in London, business picked up by 30 per cent, all of which was attributable to the leaflet distribution as couples brought in vouchers when they came to dine, and takeaway orders requested free starters. The extra expense of food was easily swallowed by the extra revenue from drinks sold in the restaurant.

When business is slow in times of recession, it’s important to be proactive in this way to achieve success. Peter managed to tap into what customers are looking for in the current economic climate. Although money is tight, and people want to cut back their spending, they don’t want to stop spending completely; they just want to feel that when they do spend money, they are getting a bargain.

When staying away from home in a UK city, whether for business or pleasure, many people prefer to look for apartment rentals rather than hotels.

Apartment rentals offer a different getaway experience; staying in an apartment is often more akin to a home-away-from-home experience because it affords you the anonymity and privacy not always found in a hotel, where a check-in desk and the presence of other guests can make you feel very much like you are on someone else’s territory.

Most apartments have a minimum stay requirement, usually two or three nights, and rates per night are generally lower the more nights you book in a row. Prices vary depending on location – both location of the actual city in the UK, and the location of the apartment you’ve chosen within a certain city.

Expect to pay from around 160 GBP upwards for two nights’ usage of a decent one-bedroom city-centre apartment outside of London without any discount. As with most travel and accommodation, It is possible to get cheaper rates if you go for a last-minute deal, but there are no guarantees. Also, be sure to investigate an apartment’s occupancy capacity. Bedroom quantity doesn’t necessarily indicate how many people the accommodation will sleep; sofa beds are often available for those that are happy to sleep on them.

All UK cities have apartments available for short and long stays, but there are more in the highly popular destinations, such as Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, York, Manchester and London.

Why not have a relaxing city break in a self-catering apartment, and feel less like a tourist for a change? Apartment rentals offer all the mod cons, and you will feel at home away from home. You could take in a weekend in York for example, and enjoy the historic buildings and huge Minster at the heart of the city, and experience the eclectic shopping scene which is a mix of high street favourites and specialist independents, sample some of the many excellent pubs and then eat in the restaurant quarter, retiring later to a cosy apartment which is all yours for the weekend.
Or if you haven’t already, why not try a city break in Glasgow, one of the most cultured and exciting cities in the UK? There’s something for everyone in Glasgow, with every kind of restaurant cuisine, great bars and clubs, a vibrant music scene as well as opera, ballet and classical music delights from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Wall coatings offer an excellent method of protecting a building from the elements. Imagine not having to re-paint the exterior of your property each summer, because there was no corrosion or damage. This is one of the many benefits that wall coatings offer.

Even the best conventional house paint that money can buy will fade and degrade through exposure to sunlight, and will crack and then flake off due to constant expansion and then contraction in temperature change.

White-coloured paint in particular suffers from the ugly effects of algae and mould growth, and needs quite a bit of maintenance to stay looking respectable. Pollution in the air also causes paint to peel, and acid rain breaks the bond between brick and paint. Wall coatings, however, last approximately ten times longer than masonry paints, resisting the changes and damages that the elements inflict for longer.

The brilliant thing about wall coatings is that they are breathable. They create what is in essence a protective skin around a building which can’t be penetrated by damp and which improves heat insulation, but coatings are also microporous, meaning that any moisture that accumulates within your building and penetrates walls can escape, helping to prevent growth of mildew and blackspot.

Jonathon Pinder had wall coating applied to his five-bedroom home in Lanarkshire two summers ago, and is so far delighted with the results.

Jonathon, 62, has lived in the property for 17 years, and every spring time he has painted the whole of the exterior with standard white masonry paint. This was a job that he used to enjoy, taking a couple of days off work to do it, and feeling very proud once the house was restored back to a gleaming white once the job was completed. But as he got older, slight mobility problems meant he wasn’t as confident about scaling a tall ladder and spending all day stretching and painting. This, coupled with the trend for rainy summer weather in Scotland, drew him to the conclusion that it was time to seek a more permanent or at least longer-lasting solution.

As yet, he hasn’t had to re-touch any of the exterior, and is very impressed with the appearance of the house. Hopefully, it will be ten years before any more work needs to be done to maintain the finish.

Wall coating has turned out to be a good financial investment for Jonathon too. He would have had to have gone to the trouble of hiring and paying for painters and decorators to paint the house each year, but thanks to his wall coating, he has peace of mind that that won’t be necessary for a few more years.

Dominic Donaldson is a building maintenance journalist with many years of experience in this field. Find out more about wall coatings at http://www.protectyourwalls.co.uk

Engineering covers many disciplines and requires a vast array of talents to overcome the challenges in construction, electrical, aeronautic and mechanical engineering. Anyone that has aspirations to become a consultant within the industry is primed to put pen to paper and cursor to pixel to demonstrate their abilities to solve engineering problems, but very rarely encouraged to develop sales techniques. We take a look at the essential skills Engineering Consultants require to get to the top of their game.

Whether engineering consultants work for an established firm or independently, they need to hone their sales skills to win contracts and impress prospective clients. Experts in the industry indicate three main points that can be used by engineering consultants to maximize chances of winning a contract. These have been based on general sales skills used in other industries, but there is more emphasis on balancing the need to demonstrate competence without giving too much away before the contract is signed.

The first rule for engineering consultants is to give an air of authority and confidence. The advice is to understand how a company that wants to solve a major engineering problem views the credentials of someone that comes through the door offering a solution. The last thing an engineering consultant should do is look like he or she is only there to get the work because they need the money. Self belief and an attitude of confidence will help the prospective client build belief in the services being offered.

The second rule is to keep something back. Apparently it is inherent within engineering consultants to want to prove how much they know, and how capable they are of problem solving. The trouble with this, as any sales person will tell you, is that if you tell a prospective client the solution before a contract is signed, they may not feel they need to enter into the contract at all. Look upon the project as a long term job. Prove skills in the immediate situation, the first step of the solution as it were, then provide a plan where other parts will come together.

To make this strategy work, the third rule comes into play. Successful engineering consultants aren’t there to sell a service, they are there to understand a problem and prescribe a solution. This could be compared to a medical professional making a diagnosis and providing treatment, or choosing to hand over a first aid kit. Ultimately, understanding what the company expects from an engineering professional will help the consultant tailor techniques in the board room.

In the modern world the amount of women that are suffering from hair loss is increasing, for women hair is a very important part of being feminine so it can be devastating for women to loose their hair. Hair loss in women tends to be different to men, usually spotted evenly across the scalp. Here in this article we shall look briefly at some of the causes of hair loss within women and the treatments that are available.

Diffuse hair loss is the most common form of loss that women suffer from. It is the gradual thinning of hair, unlike a bald patch. The growth of new hairs that replace old hairs slows down and hair becomes sparse and the scalp is visible through the hair. The main causes of this are stress, restriction of blood supply, hormones and a poor nervous system.

Androgenetic alopecia is also known as female pattern baldness, with women it is most commonly linked to hormonal influences. Menopause, childbirth or any hormonal changes can be responsible for the loss of hair. The hair loss is unlike male loss which is usually found in patches, woman’s hair loss tends to be quite uniform across the scalp.

Telogen Effluvium hair loss occurs when the hair growth cycle is interrupted causing the hair follicles to enter the resting phase earlier than usual. During the normal pattern shedding of the hair occurs within two to four months. If this occurs when there are not enough hairs in the first phase then the result is thinning hair.

Alopecia areata is a very common condition that is responsible for hair loss, most sufferers are children or young adults the hair loss is sudden with small patches. The exact cause of this hair loss is still unknown but doctors have theories that stress, auto-immune disease or genes can cause it.

Chemical trauma to the scalp can also be a cause of hair loss, bleaching, perms, or dying the hair can all damage the protein structure within the hair. This makes the hair brittle and causes hair loss, also the chemicals that are used in bleaching, dying and perms can irritate the scalp.

Treatments for any of these conditions can all be offered from professional hair clinics; here they will be able to advise you on what treatments are available to you. Technology for hair loss has come a long way in recent years and you may be surprised how you have more than one choice in tackling hair loss.

Garden irrigation is all about balance, as much as plants need plenty of water they can also die if overwatered. Creating a system that you can follow throughout the seasons is a good way of keeping your plants happy and healthy; here in this article we shall look at how to water your garden.

The best way to work out when is the right time to water your garden is to look at the soil in the root zone. Plants with shallow roots will be the first to suffer if there is a lack of water because they are limited to how much water they can take from a small area of soil. Plants with longer roots will not need watering as often because they will have a reservoir of water stored up.

To determine how much garden irrigation you need to see to can also be done by studying the soil carefully. Soil that breaks easily and has shiny edges will be near its water holding capacity. Soil that is squeezed and mould to the shape of your hand will have enough water, if soil will not hold your handprint then it needs watering. Soil needs to be kept watered as soil with six percent of moisture is unable to sustain plant life.

The surface of soil will be the first part of the soil to dry out; if the weather remains dry then the level of the dryness will get deeper. It is important to look at the plants that have shallow roots as they may be the first to suffer. When you get to watering the plants, concentrate on the root zone to quench your plants, the best way to see that this has happened is to examine the soil in detail.

Garden irrigation needs to be applied evenly for a good distribution of water in the soil, make sure that when you place water on the plants that it is not poured on faster than the rate of absorption. Sprinklers are very efficient within the garden, however sometimes it is difficult to get even distribution if the weather is particularly windy.

If your garden is ever affected by a water shortage or drought, then you need to make decisions about which of your plants need water the most. Logically watering should start with shrubs and trees with poor root systems, followed by gardens, lawns and then shrubs and trees that have healthier root systems.
